What is Kayokyoku?

Kayokyoku(歌謡曲), is an alternative term for Japanese pop music, but we use this term especially when mentioning the genre of the songs that popularized during Showa era in Japan. It became a base of the modern J-Pop.

What's the Difference from Enka(演歌)?

Unlike Enka, Kayokyoku is not based on emotional displays of effort while singing. While every Enka songs are composed in pentatonic scale(to be more specific, it uses "yonanuki scale", yonanuki  meaning fourth and seventh removed), Kayokyoku come in varieties of musical style and melody, inspired from the western style music.
